"Free giveaway picker" covers very different tools. Some only shuffle a list you paste. Some fetch the comments for you. Others are full contest platforms with entry forms, where picking the winner is one feature among many. Comparing them in one table usually hides the thing that matters: what you have to do yourself, and what each tool charges for. This guide groups the options by type, explains what "free" usually means in each group, and is clear about where PickAWin fits and where another type of tool is the better choice.

We do not quote other companies' prices or plan limits here. They change often, and an outdated number is worse than none. For any tool you consider, open its pricing page and check the current plan before you commit.

The four types of tools

1. List randomizers. You paste names or lines of text and the tool shuffles them or spins a wheel. General-purpose tools like a list randomizer or a name-picking wheel fall here. They are free and fast, and they work for any platform, as long as you do the work of copying the entries. They usually do not know what a comment, a mention or a duplicate is, so applying giveaway rules is up to you.

2. Comment pickers for one platform. These tools are built around social comments. You paste a post link, the tool loads the comments, and you can filter by duplicates, mentions or keywords before drawing. Free tiers in this group often have a limit on how many comments are loaded, or on which features are available, with a paid plan or a one-time fee for larger posts.

3. Contest platforms. These run the whole campaign: a landing page or embedded widget, entry actions such as visiting a page or joining a newsletter, and the winner selection at the end. They are the right choice when your giveaway is not just "comment on this post", for example when you want email signups or entries from several places. Most are sold as subscriptions, and free plans, where they exist, tend to be limited.

4. Plugins for your own site. If your giveaway lives on a WordPress site, a giveaway plugin keeps everything there. Same trade-off as contest platforms: more control and more setup.

What "free" usually means

When a picker says free, ask which of these it means:

  • Free to draw from a list you paste. No limits on size, but you copy the comments.
  • Free up to a number of comments. The tool fetches comments automatically, but only up to a cap.
  • Free with branding or fewer features. The draw works, but some filters, exports or result pages are reserved for paid plans.
  • Free trial. Full features for a period, then a subscription.

None of these is wrong. They just fit different giveaways. A creator running two giveaways a year has different needs from an agency running ten a month.

Where PickAWin fits

PickAWin is a comment picker, group 2, with a free manual mode that works like group 1.

  • Free manual mode: paste the list of comments from any platform. No signup, no size limit, minimum two participants. The draw runs in your browser and includes the SHA-256 record, a basic winner animation and a PDF certificate.
  • Automatic mode for Instagram: paste a post or Reel link and the comments are fetched for you. It is a one-time payment per draw rather than a subscription, and the price depends on the size of the post. The exact price is shown in your currency before you pay, and the full table is on the pricing page.
  • Filters: remove duplicates, require mentions (0 to 10), require a hashtag, exclude words or users, and set a minimum comment length.
  • Winners: 1 to 50 per draw, so alternates can be drawn in the same run.
  • Verification: every draw uses a random 256-bit seed and shows its SHA-256 hash. Automatic draws get a public result page, and the hash can be checked on the verify page to confirm the published result was not edited afterwards.

It also has limits worth knowing before you choose it:

  • Automatic fetching works with Instagram links only. For YouTube, TikTok, X or Facebook you use the free manual mode and paste the comments.
  • It does not check whether entrants follow your account. If following is a rule, check the winners by hand.
  • It is not a contest platform. There are no entry forms, no email collection and no multi-step entry actions.

How to choose

Answer these questions in order:

  • Where do the entries come from? If the answer is "comments on one Instagram post", a comment picker is the simplest fit. If entries come from a form, several networks or your website, look at contest platforms or a plugin.
  • How many entries do you expect? For a small post, pasting the comments into a free list randomizer or a free manual mode is enough. For thousands of comments, automatic fetching saves real time.
  • How often do you run giveaways? Occasional giveaways usually work out cheaper with free tools or a per-draw payment. Frequent campaigns may justify a subscription.
  • Does your audience need to check the result? If people often question your winners, prefer a tool that shows a verifiable record, a result page you can link, or both.
  • Which rules must be enforced? Make a list (duplicates, mentions, hashtag, closing time) and check that the tool can apply each one.

A note on "best of" lists

Many rankings of giveaway tools are written by one of the tools being ranked, including pages like this one. Read them for the questions they raise, not for the order. The test that matters is simple: take one of your past posts, run it through two or three tools, and compare how long it took, which rules you could apply, and what you could show your audience at the end.

If PickAWin fits your giveaway, you can try it without paying: paste a list of comments in the manual mode on the sortear page. If it does not, the types above should help you find the tool that does.
